The Story
Truth is - I wasn’t always conscious about what I put in my body. My high school years were spent eating frozen pizzas and Cinnamon Toast Crunch (yum). It wasn’t until my sophomore year of university where I started making healthier choices (having my own kitchen finally helped) and that’s when I realized how much food and exercise impacted me physically and mentally.
Junior year, I moved to Europe to study for a year in Paris and it really opened my eyes to how poor the food system really was in the States. I also won’t deny that this is probably where my love for desserts and pastries came from (a croissant a day kept the doctor away). But, there, the gluten didn’t cause my usual eczema flare ups, the dairy didn’t cause yet another acne break out and the sugar just seemed… more real. If I wanted to do what was right for my body without giving up the delicious treats that I came to love, I had to completely change the way I thought about and treated food.
Through trial and error, I’ve figured out what works for me and what doesn’t. I am a firm believer that not one diet is suitable for all. The human body is so complex, we can’t assume veganism, keto or paleo will work for everybody - what I can safely assume is that a diet with whole, natural ingredients can definitely help get us on the right path to feeling better overall.
That is what my baking embodies. I use real ingredients to create baked goods that can easily be swapped out for your favorite packaged cookies from the supermarket or donuts from the local donut shop. Eating “healthy” doesn’t need to be boring because, come on, who doesn’t like to indulge?
Baking is always something I have enjoyed, so sharing this with you is an absolute dream of mine. The end goal is to open a bakery one day in Los Angeles, CA, where I was born and lived most of my life. I have a full-time corporate job and recently decided to make the jump and commit most of my free time otherwise to Have Your Cake LA.
I have goodies that appeal to all dietary preferences and can happily accommodate any others that I may have missed. Everybody deserves balance without feeling guilty. Everybody deserves real ingredients without compromising taste.
And, of course, everybody deserves to have their cake, and eat it too!
